Scoop of the day – ‘Baby Gaga’ Breastmilk Ice-cream

by on February 24, 2011

What is more refreshing on a hot summer’s day in London than a nice ice-cream?

But would you opt for £14 Baby Gaga? A new concoction produced by London palour, Icecreamists, that blends breast milk with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest, which is then freshly churned.

The London parlour pays its breast milk suppliers £15 per third of a pumped litre and already 15 mothers have taken up the offer including a mother from Leeds who has donated a litre of her milk through responding to an advert she saw on the Mumsnet internet forum. Health checks for the lactating women are the same as those used by the NHS to screen blood donors.

Matt O’Connor, 44, who runs Icecreamists says, ‘Some people will hear about it and go, yuck! But actually it’s pure, organic, free range and totally natural.’ Whilst there’s no denying Matt’s claim is true, and mothers are well within their rights to profit from what nature has provided, it will no doubt raise heavy debate.

Great promotion for ‘Breast being Best’ but some have criticised the breast milk suppliers and said that their surplus milk would be better donated to special care baby units for babies benefit as nature intends rather than a marketing tool.

If you are ready for expressing, try the Lansinoh Manual Breast Pump, £25.99 or the Lansinoh Affinity Electric Double Breast Pump, £123.50 that allows you to pump both breasts simultaneously with ease and comfort – keeping up with supply for baby or ‘Baby Gaga’ customers… depending on which side of the debate you fall!
